Your Breed Study class was worth every penny. I can't stop thinking about sheep, and I'm trying to convince my husband that we need a few Miniature Cheviots. He's not buying it.

I love the flock of knitted sheep!

Hi Gail. You need to be able to spin a fairly consistent thread and have it hold together. The plying class requires 3 partially full bobbins which will give you some practice. Plus you have months to work on it. These aren't classes for extreme beginners but beginners who have been spinning for a bit should be ok.

Beth-I see you are giving some wonderful classes at Rhinebeck this year. I am a new spinner (wheel) and want to know how advanced I need to be for Breed Study, Spinning Lace, Drafting, Plying classes you are giving.

I love the Valkyrie Minis. They are the first combs I go to for everything. Not too scary at all. They are pointy but it really helps the combing. I am out of the pads right now but everything is on its way and should be back in stock next week.

Hi Beth! Thanks for this blog entry. I like to comb fiber, too. My favorites to comb are Corriedale and Bond, because I like a fluffy top, to spin a lofty, airy, knitting yarn. Sometimes carding creates neps and noils, so combing is a better option.

Right now, I'm looking around for some "mid-sized" combs. The minis are terrific for exotic fibers, but with sheep's wool they produce a rather small top, since the fibers pouf up so much. The hand-held traditional-sized viking combs hold more, but the prospect of getting stuck is worrisome. I wonder if the Valkyrie minis, although small, would be a good middle-ground? The 3.75 inch times are a good length, for a small comb.

Do you have pads and clamps to secure the Valkyrie combs, small or regular, for pulling off a top, or do you pull the top with the comb in your lap, or held on a table?

Thanks for your help.

We do sell them but stock very few colors and use them mostly for weaving classes. If there is something special you want we are happy to order it.
